DESIGN NAME: Chameleon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wastebasket
INSPIRATION: A constant pattern and color of the interior design could be the reason of tiredness for users. People always love to have changes in their environment. The idea is inspired by the chameleon animal. Chameleon could change its color and match itself with outer environment. The Chameleon Wastebasket has two parts and the inner part could be changed due to the user's preference and be matched with the interior design. Furthermore, the wastebasket is inspired by a moment that colors are dropped on a white surface.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In most existing wastebaskets, garbage bags made with plastic material should be used as a container and it is troublesome to fix them firmly all the times. Furthermore, existing wastebasket has an invariable color and with messy accumulation of garbage inside creates an ugly view. To address these issues, Chameleon Wastebasket is designed and proposed here. Chameleon Wastebasket is composed of two parts. The exterior part made with common firm plastic has invariable color and pattern which is bought for one time. The interior part bought in package is made from sustainable material, cardboard, which could be easily recycled in the nature.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: I would like to recommend this wastebasket for offices, library, bedrooms and hotels. Also, color and pattern of this wastebasket is changed like Chameleon since the user could choose between different colors inside the package of interior part. The messy accumulation of garbage view could be modified and a new aesthetic design is created in the environment by using the different colors and patterns for interior part. Moreover, the interior part is used instead of plastic bags and its replacement inside the basket is more convenient compared to the plastic garbage bags due to the firm shape.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The beginning of this project was in February 2014 in Tehran and it was finished in December 2014. Also, it was exhibited in the University of Tehran.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The 3D model was designed on Rhinoceros and printed partially. Combination of 3D printing and plaster casting should be used to produce exterior and interior parts in different colors to be customized easily in house.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Chameleon Wastebasket is aimed to introduce aesthetic design by using a colorful sustainable interior part instead of plastic bags. Moreover, the firm shape of the interior part solves the problem of plastic bag replacement.
CHALLENGE: The challenge on this project was to use the colors patterns in 3D shape.
