| DESIGN NAME: Ori PRIMARY FUNCTION: Desk shelf INSPIRATION: In open workspaces, working with hardcopy material such as book or documents causes collection and cumulation of materials on the table. Most of the time, this situation makes it hard to find what it is looked for as well as the messy workplace distracts the attention and concentration that prevents establishing a suitable working environment. The mess of workspaces and the circulation of materials inspire Ori which finds its place on the worktable to create a nest for this media. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Ori is a self-standing desk shelf. Its primary function is to hold the materials that are being used actively and needed to be placed in the working environment. It stores documents and books in an easy way to access with its angled position and eliminates the mess by tidying up the place to create a comfortable working environment. Its foldable structure decreases the package as well as transportation expenses and prevents any damages that can be done during shipment. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The single plate form enables to install the shelf easily. It must be folded in the direction of cuttings that lock the mechanism by its own weight. Folding specification of Ori saves space and enables it to be moved to different working environments. Also by its angled position, it distributes the load of books and documents that allows keeping the material on it without breaking bindings and tearing edges. The Non-Slip rubber prevents both slipping of the product on the surface and slipping of the materials on the shelf. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: It is a long-term concept project. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Hardwood Birch material is cut, trimmed and varnished. Wear-resistant, tear-proof rubber material is glued to the surfaces. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Ori's dimensions in the box are 215mm height, 155mm width, and 2.3mm depth. Backrest size is 150mm x 200mm and 140mm depth TAGS: Shelf, tabletop, desk shelf. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research has been conducted through observations in offices. Prototype has been tested among users and had positive feedbacks. In particular, the workers in open working spaces has stated that they use Ori as a solution for organizing materials where there is no place like wall or separations for books to set up. CHALLENGE: Solving the folding problem and finding the best material suit for rubber are the hardest challenge of the Ori.
