| DESIGN NAME: Lube PRIMARY FUNCTION: Progressive Highchair INSPIRATION: Due to the democratization of the population, the majority of children's dining highchair designs are set at young ages and can only be discarded or given away when they grow up. A chair that grow with the child, simple and natural styling concept that blends with home decoration in Nordic style is the main inspiration. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This wooden-plastic integrated progressive highchair designed for use as infant highchair, toddler booster and youth stool, easily converts its height by rotational unscrew to shorten the legs as the child grows, totally tool-free. The meal tray can swing to the back when not in use and easy to disengage the bentwood tray support from the armrest by pressing both side button. Molded plastic seat and tray for easy cleaning, BPA and phthalate-free, provides variety individuation colors selection. Nordic style design in simple and natural form will appeal to style-conscious parents looking for a highchair that blends with home decor. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This wooden-plastic integrated progressive highchair in simple and natural form of Nordic style design will appeal to style-conscious parents, the gorgeous wood tones and soft color plastic will coordinate with many home interiors. This comfy highchair will grow with the child, the height is adjustable by shorten its legs, to be used as an infant highchair, toddler booster and youth stool. The meal tray can swing to the back to get the chair close to the dining table. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in Sept 2017 in Tainan, estimate to finish in March 2018, having its first appearance in Taiwan Young Designers' Exhibition (YODEX) in May 2018. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Production: plastic mold Injection, wood lathe, weld and paint coating Material: molded plastic for seat and tray, lathe maple wood for legs, bentwood for tray rest, metal for footrest and connector. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimension:L540 mm x W611 mm x H778 mm Color planning: injection molded plastic seat and tray provides individuation colors selection. TAGS: Highchair, Progressive, Booster, Stool, Mealtime, Infant, Toddle, Maple wood RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This is a thesis design project of the final year in Tainan University of Technology, product design department, 4 students leaded by prof. Alvin Chen. Since there is a kindergarten in the university and some children products manufacturers nearby, the team did some study and questionnaire knowing the demand from the parents and manufacturers on the highchair. They summed up the conclusion to design a simple, natural of Nordic style highchair, product longevity in mind, totally tool-free height adjustable and tray rest detachable, variety of colors selection to suit any individuation that blends with home décor. The team manage to finalized the design and pending for production evaluation from the manufacturer. CHALLENGE: Presenting in simple natural Nordic style with integration of wood and plastic is the creative issue and the swinging meal tray and detachable tray rest mechanism is the most interesting part of the design. The accuracy welding angle of the metal connector between upper and lower wooden legs is the most challenging problem to be solved.
