DESIGN NAME: Black Stage
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Showroom and office
INSPIRATION: As a stage showcasing of the clients' smart systems, materials and consultant services, it is defined to be the back stage of design and furnishing. The oval Colosseum-like central exhibition area abstracts the happenings inside and visualizes the infinite performativity of these niche products and services. Mobile structures, smart systems and glass installations grants the space high adaptability to perform multiple functions.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Black Stage is an amalgamation of multi-purpose showroom of hi-tech smart systems made of reusable fabricated components, achieving sustainability. Single raised platforms gives vertical dimensions, smart glass revolving petitions define the exhibition hall. Random truss, lighting and AV Systems are embedded on the ceiling. Geometric glass, acoustical kapok and LED on the walls showcase various textures and products. Biodegradable wood and wool flooring brings contrast to the design.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The multi-functional showroom and work space foster harmonious relationship between users, maximizes the full capability of smart systems, material and solutions. Smart glass petitions and lighting systems grant high flexibility to manipulate showcase and office spaces. Highly mobile and deconstructable interior compartments, allow easy changes of products display on walls, petitions and flooring.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started from 2016-2017 at C2, 6/F, TML Tower, 3 Hoi Shing Road, Tsuen Wan, NT.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In technology aspect, smart lighting, air-conditioning, audio-video systems and water fixtures are adopted. Moreover, energy-efficient electrical appliances certified by the Hong Kong government are used. For material section, smart glass, truss, lighting and AV Systems are embedded in ceiling. Various glass, acoustical kapok are applied on walls. LED to showcase various products of the client. Wood and wool are used for flooring.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Type are Interview, field visit. Objectives are that comprehend their needs for displaying various smart technologies, high-tech solutions, product and services. Methodology are that Qualitative research on the client's direct, hidden and future needs. Data is collected through oral discussion, conference minutes and the client's proposal documents. Thorough interview is also conducted.
Results: The client is in need of spatial and corporate identity development on smart technologies, to reach out to more business partners and customers.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For techniques and methodologies, thorough interview was conducted with the client, knowing their needs for displaying various smart technologies, high-tech solutions, product and services.
CHALLENGE: Integrating enormous amount of textures and material into the space, striking visual balance is a challenge. The designers have to put lighting, colors, texture into consideration throughout the process. Suitable display of clients' products are taken great care of, balancing aesthetics and commercial value.
