DESIGN NAME: Desire of Comfort Lighting
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Townhouse Interior Design
INSPIRATION: Grim, moist, and poor ventilation is the first impression you experience when you enter into the traditional townhouse. These poses as one of the most common problems between the gloomy and shared narrow passages within these housings.
What we are inspired to do is through the usage of light, guidance, and tandem, we would be able to strengthen the atmosphere in creating an absolute new space.
We hope to use light attraction, wind guidance, and space connections to strengthen and create a new spatial design. One of which when both light and ventilation is combined the basic conditions of a worthy house can be naturally born.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tear down the original wall that acted as a blockage, allowing light and air to pass through into the centre of the house.
We use the original structural advantage from the back portion of the dining and kitchen area to allow direct skylight to flow indoors.
This grants a consistent, charming yet natural lightened atmosphere, where air can flow through creating a natural comfort within the space.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The original high rise living room was connected through a dark long hallway linking up to the gloomy kitchen. Through translucent display cabinets, steel hollow staircases, metal grille, and steel flooring we create a spatial plane and three-dimensional connection through the living quarters. All of which also creates the hallucinating vision of space between the ambiguous and translucent atmosphere, allowing the space to become more cohesive with a slight visibility between the circulation of the pathway.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project spent nine months in architecture remodel and interior design in the Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The high rise living room area uses the steel structure to create an empty bridge to derive a bookcase for a reading corner. Allowing top and bottom floor activity to have different views yet also have a sense of hierarchy of up and down activities. Through the living room’s translucent display cabinets and steel hollow staircases, this creates the layer by layer guide the next space continuing on the back portion of the kitchen and dining area where it allows the befalling skylight to connect around the whole public area.
We expect our designs not only to improve the living atmospheres but most importantly to use the tangible spaces to affect intangible activities that can enhance the emotional connections between inhabitants.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was the limited budget we had to improve the electricity, water supply, sewage, water leakage problems and the building structure in order to meet a humanized design. This challenge definitely required designers to have an expertise in reconstruction for all these pipeline structures to achieve the desired design.
