| DESIGN NAME: “Cong Rong” PRIMARY FUNCTION: Portable Tea Cup INSPIRATION: It is directly inspired by the jade cong, a Chinese ritual object. According to The Rites of Zhou Dynasty, there were six objects used for god worship and cong was used to worship the earth. In this design, Chinese mysterious civilization is just mirrored right into the cong shape of the cup that is circular inside and square outside. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It is inspired by the Chinese cong (ancient jade artifact) collected by the Nanjing Museum. Cong, as a ritual object in Chinese culture, is a tube with a circular inner section and squarish outer section. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: - PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: - |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: simplify the structure of jade cong and use modern technique to keep the main shape of cong to make the cup very handy. By doing so, it is not only easy to use but also demonstrating cultural connotation. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: “Cong Rong” ,Portable ,Tea Cup RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This special design is a very good decoration after use. Cups can be arranged up together to form a typical shape of traditional jade cong so it can be a very beautiful object for home or office desk, bringing you a sense of cultural sentiment. Making it portable and easy to use as the highlight, this design is our respect to our cultural tradition. Its shape is derived from traditional cong and our designer adopts modern technique to makes it very handy. Its classic form makes it very easy for hand hold at which designer increases the thickness for heat-proof protection. Besides, the cup has a dotted filter for tea-leaves well designed basing on how the tea will be pouring out in a best angle. After use, cups can be well arranged up to be just like a jade cong, hence it can be a very good decoration for space. As a light-weighted life companion, no matter where you are, this design enables you to enjoy every moment with a cup of tea. CHALLENGE: Given that cong is one of Chinese cultural symbols, how to put that abstract value into a design of simplistic and handy daily product is the biggest challenge.
