| DESIGN NAME: Aegis PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Tablecloth INSPIRATION: This design was inspired by envelope. I found that a lot of sanitation workers in China are at immediate risk of barbecue stick injuries, when they deal with garbage.Moreover, In many Chinese barbecue dining room, diners do not pay attention to deal with barbecue stick in an appropriate manner. Therefore, I hope to design a product to reduce sanitation workers’ the risk of injury. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a disposable paper table cover, its the most important feature is that people can disassemble it and put barbecue sticks in it, like putting a letter in the envelope. The purpose of design is that this is a simple way to reduce sanitation workers’ risk of injury from the barbecue stick in garbage can. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design is inspired by the shape of the envelope, which can prompt consumers to put the skewers into it after eating up, just like putting the letter into the envelope. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Paper SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 300mm x Depth 5mm x Height 200mm TAGS: Tablecloths, Garbage Disposal, Skewers, Barbecue, Sanitation Worker RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Barbecue is a very important part of the diet culture in China. Every year Chinese people consume a large number of barbecues, at the same time, a huge number of disposable barbecue skewers are discarded. Moreover, many consumers and owners of barbecue restaurants do not deal with these discarded barbecue skewers properly, randomly throwing them into the trash can. In the vast majority of cities in China, sanitation workers have to pick up trash from trash cans with bare hands, which often leave their hands injured by sharp barbecue skewers. CHALLENGE: In the design, the biggest problem is how to deal with the barbecue skewers conveniently and quickly in a reasonable manner by those who enjoy barbecues. We consider that the best solution to the problem is to allow those who enjoy barbecues to use objects on the table, such as bowls, chopsticks, disposable table cover, to hold these skewers. After a comparison of quality of material, shape and other factors of these objects, the disposable paper table cover with high rate of utilization in Chinese barbecue restaurants is finally chosen as a breakthrough of our design.
