| DESIGN NAME: Faghan 5-SBG PRIMARY FUNCTION: 5 String Bass Guitar INSPIRATION: As there was a huge gap in the Persian traditional music in anchoring the harmonic framework and laying down the beat in collaboration with the rhythm section instruments, It was necessary to use these kind of instrument such as a bass guitar in Persian traditional music but the it was a big mistake to use that western style instrument in that eastern atmosphere. So Faghan has been designed to cover that. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This bass guitar has been designed with an unusual style of body and headstock. The body has been complexly designed with an eastern shape covered by metallic black color and two kinds of aesthetics; a sharped edge western design and a persian miniaturistic flowers. Standard tuning for a Faghan from lowest pitch to highest (thickest string to thinnest) is: B – E – A – D – G. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Faghan is a stringed instrument played primarily with the fingers or thumb, by plucking, slapping, popping, strumming, tapping, thumping, or picking with a plectrum, often known as a pick. it has a pick-up to connect it to an amp and without that, it is not possible to hear the sound of Faghan such as all electric basses. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2015 and finished in August 2016 in Tehran, and will be Exhibited in Art and Architecture faculty of IAU Central Tehran branch in 2017. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The wooden part of Faghan is a computer aided designed which is manufactured by CNC machines and finished by hand. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Overall : 112cm height x 42 width x 5mm depth Headstock: 17cm height x 12cm width x 3 cm depth Body: 50cm height x 42 width x 5mm depth Wight: 4.2 kg TAGS: Musical instrument, Bass Guitar, Guitar, 5-stringed, aesthetics, Music RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This 5 Stringed bass guitar has been designed to use in a traditional atmosphere of persian music and this area is complexly difficult to understand because the designer has to find out an invisible border between modern arts and traditional cultures. So we tried to use traditional shapes in a base full of modern materials and colors such as white board and metallic black body. CHALLENGE: Covering an aesthetic gap is so hard. In this case as a musician and a designer you have to consider different Parameters to have a good design. and in Faghan that parameter in musical part was the ergonomic and acoustic Parameters and aesthetics has been covered by shape and tHree dimensional body with middle eastern and persian elements.
