| DESIGN NAME: MaySonnet PRIMARY FUNCTION: Handbag INSPIRATION: I’m mostly inspired by the combination of modern art and Persian classical art and literature. Since one of the major problems which my culture is facing nowadays is that our classical art is getting weakened day by day and it is being replaced with new modern art, which doesn’t resemble it. So, I have decided to design a series of bags which have Persian art spirit in combined with their fashionable style. Generally, I have designed a bag to match the harmony of modern arts and the classical perspective of my culture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I wanted to make a bag with cultural themes and modern lines.As you may be aware, one of the Iran’s fields in handicrafts is wood work. Consequently, I have decided to add a wooden work, which is called lattice work, to my work, but not in a typical way. I have combined the wooden work with a sonnet as a form of calligraphy, paying homage to popular Iranian poets and calligraphers. I have chosen a circular form for my bag, considering its meaningfulness in Persian art in terms of faith. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: People can emotionally connect to sonnet bag because it mostly gives them nostalgic feeling along with its cultural values. To help to keep the objects inside the bag, it has a zipper and a layer of leather covering it. The wooden lattice has a sonnet, which is cut on it and is attached to the front of the bag. The layer of leather, which covers the zipper, has the same sonnet on it. The sonnet could be chosen by the customers and would be redesigned both in the wooden and leather pieces. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in march 2016 in Tehran and finished in August 2016 . |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This handbag is handmade ,however wooden part done by laser cut production. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: MaySonnet handbag is present in two sizes. The wooden circle is either 30 centimeters in diameter or 20 centimeters. TAGS: bag, design, cultural, handmade, leather, wood, accessories, calligraphy, persian bag, fashion. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: At the beginning, I had some research on Iranian handicrafts and art in all fields. Afterward, I just combined it with modern style and added details at the end. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was choosing the right material, especially for the wooden part, inasmuch as it needed sustainability and its weight was important. Plus having a good balance since the leather and the wood were going to join together. NAME: meykaame PROFILE: The logo represents Mahkameh’s name because the design is from her selection of sonnet bags. The collection, in addition to Mahkameh’s other collections, will be expanded into a bigger company with more experience, in near future. The logo is also used on the bag and can be seen in the teaser. |
