| DESIGN NAME: Helpole PRIMARY FUNCTION: Trekking pole INSPIRATION: Helpole means help and pole. People always hesitate to bring a trekking pole to go travel or even considered about bringing one or a pair of trekking poles. Sometimes carrying trekking poles for excursion trip may not be helpful in any moment, it is a hindrance. Therefore this design is designed to let people more enjoy the process of trekking without carrying a heavy and long pole in whole journey but a helpful and convenience pole. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a mini trekking pole which users can put it in pocket. The idea is remain the handle part of traditional trekking pole and replacing the stick part to branch. The suspension balls have different softness and colors to meet different client's needs. After the luminous material absorbed the solar light, it can help people looking stuffs in their bag, letting drivers to pay attention to trekkers .etc. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Pick a strong broken branch. Pull down the screw structures. Then put the stick inside the helpole until it touch the suspension ball. The ball can absorb most of the vibration during the pole touch the ground. Turn down the three nuts one by one till they are tided. Because of the screw structures are in triangle shaped therefore when the nuts turn down, it will be more and more tide. When the pole is not needed, user can returns the branch back to nature. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2015 and submitted to A Design award in March 2016 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials: Soft luminous plastic, Transparent hard plastic, Aluminum-magnesium alloy, Sponge skin hex nuts, cork wood. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 45mm x Depth 45mm x Height 140mm TAGS: trekking pole, mini trekking pole, environmental friendly trekking pole, trekking, sports, idea design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Researched in trekking pole design, variety of screw structure and griped objects such as golf pole, fishing rod, flashlight and cup ear. CHALLENGE: Branches have a range of different sizes therefore this design is using the idea of screw with a triangle shape separated screw head. When the hex nuts turn down, it will tide up the branch with the design. In addition, a good trekking pole have to be light and have a good structure therefore the design does not carry doubt or triple functions but keep simple and functional.Moreover, to shortest the design, the nuts are another griping area and will be hidden when it is not in use.
