| DESIGN NAME: Biz Eyes PRIMARY FUNCTION: Eyewear INSPIRATION: Biz Eyes is an abstraction of what fashion derived from popular images like comic books and super heroes look like. These are pop arts of 21st C. Instead of Marilyn Monroe, we have Hunger Games Capital Couture, or Clockwork Orange. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Personification of pop art and abstract expressionism.In 21st C. customization is an essential aspect of popular consumerism. Biz Eyes is a sort of fashion statement, looking at glasses not only as functional or as accessory, but more the way we look at jewelry, something that makes a statement about us. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 3D printed frame with custom detachable pairs, which can be replaced simply by turning them 22.5° to, then, screw on a new pair, offers a unique way to make a bold statement with everyday eyewear. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2014 in Shanghai. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Using SLS ans SLS technology, nylon and white and transparent resin as the materials. Then dying the products with fabric colors which nylon can absorb. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Arm length: 139mm Frame length: 126.9mm Bridge length: 16mm TAGS: Customize, Adaptable, Statement, Bold, Interlocking joint, Abstract, Expressionism, Pop art, Fashion, Eyewear RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I have designed jewelry for a while besides my major which is architecture. One idea led to another one and I started liking eyewear which is an ideal product to get busy with 3D printing. Combining with other accessories and match them all with cloths, and to have different styles, statements with 1 single frame and several pairs. The scale comparing to architecture [buildings] is very different, but the process of design is the same. from concept to the details and final image. CHALLENGE: I decided to design eyewear, but there are many designers doing the same, which made finding a new concept tricky. I didn't want to just design another frame, I wanted to design something timeless, which is adjustable to different kind of designs from vintage to contemporary to futuristic. NAME: Biz Eyes PROFILE: Biz Eyes, a collection of 3D printed eyewear with detachable spectacles. the series results from the close examination of cosmopolitan needs to express and dare individuality. Abstract notion of fashion present in the designs, derives from popular culture, music and comic books, villains and superheroes. Biz Eyes is composed of a base frame made from a sturdy transparent resin where you can attach a series of different 3D printed spectacles that range from ovals to spikes to geometrical compositions and more. thanks to the interlocking joints, an easy exchange of styles can be made by turning them 25 degrees and screwing another pair on. Biz Eyes now has two different collections available: genesis and cream on chrome. the first explores the circle as a form and its different variations in an organic way, as well as a wide variety of colors like aquamarine, fuchsia, pearl gray and many more. cream on chrome, on the other hand, maintains a two-color palette and examines different geometrical compositions. Biz Eyes gives the user a chance to adapt and change, interpret and reinterpret, express and explore themselves through the use of an accessory that has become so vital in our cosmopolitan lives. |
