| DESIGN NAME: Relation PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: Most designer can stay away from that kind of chair form thinking about the production process. I tried to open a new wide path for me while I was designing 'relation' UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This chair has a unique and extraordinary form. Most designer can stay away from that kind of chair form thinking about the production process. On the other hand, the material wood is not in the 1st place if you care about easy and serial production. Relation seems such a sculpture, such an art object if it is made by oak. Because, it becomes man made when produced from wood. On the other hand, you can put the chair in to serial design process by changing the material such as corion, steel etc. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Chair design has also barstool and coffee table options. Those are made from the same material with the same methods. Combining them together makes a 'relation furniture group'. All of them are best suitable furniture for indoor usage such as house, restaurant, hotels etc. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design process of the project started in the beginning of April 2008 and finished during the month and was exhibited in Maison Object Fair in Paris in February 2015. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It is built with 14 years ripped american oak by 5 axis cnc machine. After 5 different parts (2 side legs, 1 center connection part, under sitting area and back area parts) are produced from oak and then combined together. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The chair introduces comfortable uses in these sizes: 45/60/79 The coffee table introduces comfortable uses in these 3 optional sizes: 60/35 ; 80/35 ; 120/40 The bar chair introduces comfortable uses in these same sizes for the 3 different optional forms: 55/44/973 TAGS: chair, elegant, naturel, wooden, organic, relation, plexus RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The industrial identity of the chair reveal itself by use of curvilinear formed wooden structures built sanded surfaces at back and under sitting areas with a refined and elegant approach. First of all, we made very detailed research to find the durable material for the production process. The result is american oak. Then we tried to find the suitable usage of the oak and after several experiments we noticed that using 14 years ripped american oak will be the best way. Otherwise, some cracks may occur in the future around the product.
