| DESIGN NAME: Novice Saver PRIMARY FUNCTION: Virtual Sketch Assistant INSPIRATION: As a group of industrial design students and tutor, we have all experienced the difficulties when first learning product sketching. Accurate perspective is the most essential and the very first thing to learn for each novice, while it requires lots of practice. Using pencil and rubber is not recommended by the tutors since it is less durable and can make the drawing untidy. Then we come about this idea of a device that generates perspective lines and can be easily removed after finishing the drawing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The virtual sketch assistant is designed for students/ novices who have just started to learn sketching or designing. It projects three red laser lines on each device, which act as perspective lines with vanish points at the crossing end. The range of perspectives is 90 degree for each line as the red area on the top surface indicates. Two feet at bottom are made from rubber to stabilize the device. Accurate perspective lines can improve the sketch quality significantly especially for beginners. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Comparing with transitional perspective lines, the laser lines can be removed without leaving a trace and keep the sketch clean, tidy and well-constructed. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials of the virtual sketch assistant are plastic (ABS) and rubber (two feet) manufactured by injection moulding.
