| DESIGN NAME: Stingray PRIMARY FUNCTION: Floor Lamp INSPIRATION: As its name suggests, this lamp design was inspired by Stingrays which are fascinating creatures, as they float and fly through the oceans they appear almost bird-like in their motions. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The part of the lamp which resembles stringray's tail, both provides light source and also is the base of the lamp. The appearance reminding of a ray impresses with flowing, organic curves. Lovely views and shadow plays appear depending on the angle of view. The shape of waves reflects the harmonic swinging "pectoral fins" and gives the lamp a special dynamic and lightness. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Stingray with its symbolic tail as a wire is operated like any normal lighting system, but it cannot be expected to act as general lighting in any space. The lamp is designed for the idea that lighting element could be a part of interior design without dominating the space but like the animal itself stay at the bottom without being noticed. On the cable there is the electronic dimmer which allows the regulation of light brightness. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Stingray started in May 2014 and finished in February 2015. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Upper side of Body is die cast aluminum with an overmolded polymer coating, Matte black plasticized paper shade. Shade in photo-etched optical polycarbonate. Internal reflector in photo-etched ABS. The adhesive bond aluminum surfaces and the ABS. Power supply contained in lamp body. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions: 40Width cm x 50Depth cm x 15Height cm. Colour: Black&White. Wide-range power supply 100-200 Volts contained in the body. TAGS: Lamp, Stingray, Minimal, Illumination, Diffuse, Light, Ayse, Teke, Mingu RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research started by the anatomy of a stingray and how to give this shape to a lamp that reminds the stingray at first sight. Choosing the right material which should abstract the movements of stingray was the main focus of the project. CHALLENGE: The intensity of the light and and its quality was the most challenging thing to achieve for the exact amount what is expected. Thinking creatively and boldly and challenging the existing lighting innovations, shapes, materials and/or functions of the leading lighting design creators and producers by designing something truly unique are the other concerns.
