| DESIGN NAME: A Desert Island PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional table INSPIRATION: The inspiration comes from my daily thoughts. "Being only one person in a design studio, working hard to survive in this weary life, seems like living alone in a Desert Island, fantasizing myself having pleasant dinner with my family, spending a crazy night with my friends, meeting new people to work with, playing with my naughty dog and etc..." But this un-disturbing loneliness gave me The Idea to design an "All-in-One&quo UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "A desert island" is a space where at least 30 people including disables people and their pets, can freely do whatever they want. It is all about creating an open space like the street to communicate and to share.The center is like the control booth,where you can work and see everything around,also you have 3 different tables to entertain your guests. It isn't only for a design studio. It could transform into anything where people can have fun. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This project is like an inner park or fun street where anybody including disabled people and animals can do whatever seems to be fun to them.They can climb on The Desert Island to take a nap or sit around tables to gossip, to eat, to watch movies, to work etc. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in september 2012 in seoul at "The Warehouse" where I am having a permanent exposition and it is finished 3 weeks later in august 2013. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To make my design perfectly, only one answer seems to be correct for me: craftmanship. You just need 3 things: a design philosophy to create your world, hands to express freely your creation and persistence to finish your creation. Production steps: 1-Place plywood panels on the floor to draw the plan 2-Cut layers and round corners 3-Structuring with wooden sticks and MDF panels 4-Piling up with plywood layers and corners 5-Painting the whole surface with transparent expoxy rasin twice. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: length:5000mm x width: 6800 mm x heights:800mm TAGS: Open, Fun, Unique, Sexy, Free RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My daily life is my research. Wherever i go, whatever i see, i'm always trying in my head, to transform things with my design identity. I start with "What would I create if i design this space?" and come up with lots of alternatives. Within those altenatives, I erase existant or similar designs to select 2 or 3 unique ones than mix them to make one "uniquest design". CHALLENGE: As there are so many good and countless design styles theses days, hardest things is to keep my design identity to create something very unique. NAME: BUMI PROFILE: The client is myself. As i spend so many hours at "The warehouse" where i have a permanent exposition of my furnitures, I decided to create a special space with all my design fetish where spending time won't be a problem. It is very important for me to use my designs for several months to be the judge of my designs before i start to promote. |
