DESIGN NAME: Hygge Sanctuary
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Interior
INSPIRATION: Hygge is a concept that evokes "coziness", especially when one is relaxing with good friends or loved ones and while enjoying good food, inviting closeness and paying attention to the warmth in a home to this lovely couple.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This cozy abode to a young and loving couple has been tastefully designed with the combination of industrial minimalist interior, with a touch of warm wood furniture. Urban living has a new meaning in this house, where the concrete tiles and stark grey walls meet the cozy characteristic of carefully selected wood finishes.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The open concept in the family area, flowing into the study area, allows home owners to make have multiple usage of the space. In family gathering where number of people is more than usual, the open study area can be used as an entertainment area as well. The entrance of the kitchen is also able to be fully opened to allow a wider space to mingle around. In the master bedroom, the bedroom next to it has been combined together, creating a huge wardrobe space for the fashion savvy couple.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project started in September 2014 and took about 3 months to complete. It was handed over to the home owner in November 2014 in Singapore.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Many do not venture the collaboration of cold and warm materials in a single environment, but in this home the daring mix of concrete and dark grey with carefully chosen wood-grain cabinetry finishes, made a perfect match. To further enhance the walls in the family area, a black framed wall complete with textured white bricks graced the open study area. The eye is drawn to the contrast of the rich wood-grain color of the study cabinetry to the cool grey cement wall and floor, creating this very cozy corner.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The usage of the spaces have to be carefully planned so that the work flow is in favor of the couple. On top of that, the multiple usage of the spaces have to be applicable to most of the area, as the couple love to entertain guest as well as having private spaces to do their own leisure activities. The couple loved the rawness of cement and grey walls, but yet does not want it to look too cold and uninviting. So by having carefully selected rich wood grain colors to add to the interior, the entire environment embraced a cozy urban living.
CHALLENGE: Other than being fashion savvy, the man of the house is also IT savvy. The numerous data cable to be laid across the entire house has to be carefully concealed out of sight. Hence, many cabinetry has to be designed with wire channels to accommodate the large amount of wires.
