DESIGN NAME: Eco-Display mobile Application
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mobile Phone Application
INSPIRATION: Eco-labels and Carbon Footprint labels could be one of the solutions employed to increase consumer awareness, however, most consumers are confused by the existing information about sustainable products.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project explores the potential for providing consumers with environmental information about electronic products; with the aid of a mobile phone application for NFC enabled phones and NFC tags, to improve the current provision of environmental information in the consumer electronic product retail industry.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The aim of the dissertation is to educate consumers about the impact of their behavior on the environment, using information that is easy to understand to help them make informed decisions before they purchase electrical and electronic products.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2009 in Nottingham Trent University and finished in July 2014 in Nottingham Trent University.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A new format was developed for a presentation method to provide consumers with sustainability information on electronic products, through the use of a mobile phone application in Near Field Communication (NFC) - enabling phones and NFC tags, which give detailed environmental impact information, product information, Eco-Points, and energy consumption figures. It will allow consumers to compare similar products.
CHALLENGE: THE CREATIVE: The Eco-Display mobile app allows the consumer to make an informed decision during the purchasing process to select more environmentally friendly products. / RESEARCH CHALLENGE: Lack of data on electronic products: The database of electronic components did not provide sufficient data.
