DESIGN NAME: Minbart
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Concept Store
INSPIRATION: The aim was to have a bold exposed space that would encourage people to enter the shop without being intimidated. The ceiling design was inspired by the existing site conditions where the material texture and color were maintained. The track lighting were selected for their flexibility and for their bold look that matches Minbart's brand.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An independent concept store on the beach front of Al Muneera, Raha Beach in Abu Dabi. Details are clear cut with a minimal approach for the purpose of clear zoning. Materials were selected to emphasize a monotone color and texture scheme, allowing the products displayed to be the main source of attraction.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In order to compensate for the shop size limitation, the ceiling above the display area was left exposed in order to empower the grand five meter height. For this to be done in an aesthetic manner, the mechanical services and piping were designed to be placed above the storage area, allowing the A.C grills to be hidden within the bulkhead. To utilize the store height and emphasize its scale, bold track lights where suspended from the slab above.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2014 in Abu Dhabi and finished in March 2014

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research focused on small spaces, we needed Minbart to accommodate the products without being cluttered. Therefore, the colors and the materials used were minimal. Another field of research was the ability to have a versatile space where the client could control and change over the years. The hollow cube was the perfect choice for Minbart. The cube was pure and easy to handle, the products can be displayed on any its four side while adding more variety and character to the space.
CHALLENGE: Creating a versatile space that will function in both retail and exhibit activities.
