| DESIGN NAME: Magnetic blocks PRIMARY FUNCTION: Toy INSPIRATION: I was inspired by simplicity of nature cells. I wanted to create something really simple what can grow into something big and new. I was also inspired by single bricks which are used to create houses. It is an example of simple forms which can be transformed into something amazing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Magnetion is a set of blocks designed for children. This educational toy is created to improve their brain skills. Despite blocks are single modular there are endless combinations you can create. Each piece is ergonomically shaped and nice to hold even in small hand. Blocks are made of wood, so we can feel the natural material while playing. There are 4 magnets on each end of block, which allow pieces to stick to each other. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The blocks are made of alder wood. They are carved of wooden boards. First step is to cut boards into rectangles. Next step is to mark vertical line in the middle of the block, then cut the corners to obtain 2 equilateral trapezoids which are sticking to each other by bottom. Then, we proceed shaping the block with making 2 indentations on both upper bases of trapezoids.Next step is to drill holes for the magnets. Finally, fillet all the sharp edges and insert magnets into prepared holes.
