| DESIGN NAME: Wall-it PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bracket for pendant lighting INSPIRATION: As a producer of simple hanging pendant lighting, I created a range of simple wall brackets, ready to plug in and light up. Before designing this, I could hear my father say "find a need, and fill it". So I have designed a simple solution that allows the pendant light to shine, to be the center of attention, by using a simple, almost-invisible item, that is easily installed with a couple of screws, all this using materials that are upcycled (from the waste of other productions). UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An upcycled product. A simple and elegant and nearly invisible way to hang simple, pendant lighting without the bothersome task of drilling in the ceiling, hiring electricians, etc. This item, with its transparency, provides a beautiful solution. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: My long time supplier, who is also interested in responsible disposal of waste, has agreed to assist in saving the waste materials that I might be interested in using for various products. This upcycling would not be possible without his involvement. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The Wall-It design was prototyped in 2012, and later in 2013 developed further to be ready for market. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Again, it was an important and conscious choice to keep production local, (in Denmark). We want to contribute positively to the environmental issue of CO2 emissions, by using local suppliers, and using off-cuts from other productions of acrylic products. The materials are acquired through a close collaboration with a local manufacturer to collect the waste material to make the Wall-Its. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: There are seven models in the Wall-It range. Approximate sizes: Basic model: 12 x 15 cm Chand model: 12 x 20 cm TAGS: acrylic, transparent, wall sconce, wall bracket RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After months of selling my line of simple pendant lighting, I became aware that an accessory to hang the lights elegantly, simply, was missing. It was like getting a (battery-driven) gift, and not getting batteries to go with it. The bracket had to be made of recycled pieces of acrylic and had to be transparent. Upcycled, Wall-it is a line of wall brackets/sconces consisting of seven different models of items to be attached to the wall, hereby giving the end-customer full choice and control over where they place their pendant lighting. CHALLENGE: Filling a need - beautifully, simply. To provide a solution to hang modern pendant lamps in the way the customer chooses himself. The Wall-It gives that choice without disturbing the existing decor, through its transparency. Like the actual origin of Clairely Upcycled Jewellery, Wall-It was a way to use the acrylic left over after some other production, thereby upcycling that waste into a useful product. There are no other items specifically designed for the purpose of hanging pendant lamps. NAME: Claire de Lune (Lighting products) PROFILE: The Claire de Lune line of products cover many areas of lighting and lighting accessories. As well as lamps and lampshades, these can also include mirrors, and other items that enhance the distribution of light. The literal translation of Claire de Lune is "light of the moon" clearly suggesting the brand's products. |
