| DESIGN NAME: Bender PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bench INSPIRATION: The problem was that people never want to use seats on a sunny day what aren't in the shade or wet seats because of rain. All public benches around the world are location- and weather-dependent. The design was inspired by concept art, my dreams and surrealism. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Bender Bench Group is a ‘part functional public seating’ and ‘part kinetic sculpture’. Bender Bench was designed around a unique frame that makes it possible to rotate both vertically and horizontally.Both side of the the bench can spin on a short vertical axis on its small wheels to face any direction for different views.All seats can spin on a horizontal axis with a type of swivel movement that can flip all the way up to give a shade during heavy rain or a very strong sunshine. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: People can move,rotate or spin the benches on the frame how they want. Every new interaction makes a new sculpture. The variations of the benches are infinite. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2012 in Slovakia and finished in September 2012 in Hungary. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The frame is made from steel, the seats and the small wheels are made from plastic. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The whole frame is 1620mm tall, lenght is 4280mm, width is 1780mm. One plastic bench is 1330mm tall, lenght is 2112mm,width is 622.5mm. Between the seating and the ground is 360 mm-470mm (the seating is angled by 14.30°). The seating's width is 450mm and lenght is 1200mm. The backrest is 1110mm-1220mm tall (angled by 7°). The bigger black wheel has 32.5mm radius and the smaller black wheel has 31.5mm. The steel frame has 22.5mm-15mm radius.
