DESIGN NAME: Dino
PRIMARY FUNCTION: A sofa for two people from which can be drawn two armchairs
INSPIRATION: armables for dinosaurs toys
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: What makes this object unique is the way the two chairs are hidden inside the main sofa, helping save lots of space. The entire furniture can even be stored in a closet if not in use at all since it can be easily disassembled in a box.
Also, one doesn´t need to get another full sofa if you need a sofa for three, four, five or even more people.
The furniture can be extended as long as anyone wants since all you need to increase the length are spare parts than can be available individualy.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The way this furniture works is quite simple. The lounge chairs are simply intertwined with the main sofa. Tho separate them from the sofa, the upholstered are removed so to allow the chairs to be extracted. Then the upholstered parts are embedded bback in the sofa, and so are upholstered parrts of the lounges which used to be hiding inside the main structure
Cracks in the wooden parts of the seats fit perfectly with the pipes of the couch and allows keeping the entire cabinet fully aligned.
When individual seats are saved on the sofa, so are the upholstered parts, which fit together perfectly on the legs, leaving everything in place and nothing to chance or floating around.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2010 and finished in february 2012 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: This is probably, in my understanding, my most complex project. It evolved from a multi plywood sheets all closely together, to a much simpler and economic solution.
It took a previous prototype before reaching to this one. In fact the wood pieces from this prototype belong to spares when doing the last one, and therefore, the unnecessary cracks in the wooden parts of the main sofa.
While designing this project i begun just with the idea of intertwining the lounge chairs with the main sofa, but then, i started working on ergonomics, weight and dissasembling qualities, and this final Dino version came out.
I guess the real challenge of this project was simplifying from the concept, the idea, the utility to a realistic, industrial standarized object without loosing the main course.
