DESIGN NAME: Ribbon Barstool
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Barstool
INSPIRATION: The Zig Zag Chair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Mimicking the soft flow and folding of a ribbon, this modern barstool is a perfect blend of form and function. The uniquely curvy silhouette commands attention while also offering an ergonomic structure.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Ribbon Barstool attributes its stability to the even weight distribution between its two front steel legs and the molded wood or plastic base. The legs are affixed to a steel plate which is embedded into the S-shaped, structure. Rubber grips are used on the bottom of the steel tubing and wood/plastic structure to aid in slide resistance.
The unique curves of the barstool are supported with translucent rubber discs that are wedged in the small space between the curve of the back of the seat and the wood base. This distributes the weight into the legs and base without compromising the integrity of its form.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The inception of the concept and design began in Florence, Italy while in design school in 2009. Since then the materials and structure have been refined for production purposes.
