DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
The “1000cc” ceramic carafe.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Water carafe

INSPIRATION:
We have got the inspiration from the ancient Greek ceramic tradition

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The “1000cc” ceramic water carafe, has one liter capacity and comes with an extractable metallic ice-pack. The metallic ice-pack clasps and unclasps on the carafe with one simple move. So, the carafe can be filled with cold water and in addition, we can freeze the metallic ice-pack and apply it on the carafe before serving. Due to this unique feature, the insulating effect of both the metallic ice-pack and the ceramic material keeps water cold for much longer in room temperature.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The “1000cc” has a curvilinear, minimal and appealing figure, while the metallic part gives the carafe a contemporary character. The balanced shape and the long, thin neck of the carafe offer the user a safe grip and enable serving. Clay products constitute a sustainable choice and have a comparatively small effect in the environment. The metallic ice- pack is made of an aluminum-magnesium alloy. Aluminum is a recyclable and sustainable material.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project of the "1000cc" ceramic carafe started in March 2010 and finished in September 2010 in Athens. It was exhibited in Green Design Festival 2010 in Athens, where it was received with great enthusiasm from the visitors of the exhibition.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Food, Beverage and Culinary Arts Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
CERAMIC (STONEWARE) PART : casting into a suitable plaster mould. After the forming process the ceramic part will be fired in a kiln and glazed. METALLIC PART : die casting. The aluminum-magnesium alloy is an alloy of high strength- especially in low temperatures- , great formability, corrosion resistance and weldability. The metallic ice-pack, after the forming process has to be filled with sterile water and be sealed. A brushed finish applied to the surface will give the metal a soft luster.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Height x Width x Depth: 284mm x 155mm x 155mm

Foant Asour was born in Athens, Greece. He attended the arabic high school in Athens and received a higher diploma in industrial and product design from the Middlesex University(Athens branch).DEDE think that innovation and conceptual approach can make a difference in the industrial and product design field. They also believe that humor can generate unorthodox and stimulating thinking that contributes to progressive ideas and therefore to unconventional design items. It can also be a drastic way to approach people and inspire them to think under a different light. From the 14th to the 19th of April 2010 DEDE participated in the international fair for young designers SALONESATELLITE 2010, in Milan. In August 2010 DEDE won the RED DOT award:design concept 2010 for the “this side up” table.
