RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research behind Zucca focused on exploring organic design principles and advanced woodworking techniques. The objective was to create a functional yet sculptural table base that blends art and craftsmanship. Using a mix of historical woodworking methods and modern tools like CNC machines, the design was tested for structural integrity and visual impact. Insights from artisans and designers helped refine the final piece, resulting in a functional work of art that elevates design standards, influencing both craftsmanship and sustainable design practices in the industry.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge in creating Zucca was balancing its sculptural, organic form with structural stability. Achieving fluid curves in solid wood without compromising strength required extensive testing and refinement. The use of advanced CNC technology combined with handcrafting was necessary to ensure precision. Additionally, the challenge of sourcing high-quality materials and integrating sustainability without losing the piece's aesthetic appeal pushed the boundaries of traditional woodworking and modern design techniques.
