OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Sors simplifies financial management for Chinese international students with an intuitive, user-friendly experience. Users set financial goals during onboarding and track spending through synced accounts or manual entry, with visual analytics highlighting patterns. Personalized savings goals and real-time progress tracking keep users motivated with milestones and rewards.
AI-powered insights provide budgeting suggestions, while contextual coupons save money with a single tap. Financial reports offer easy-to-digest insights, helping users understand their habits. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Sors's design uses user-centered methodologies, integrating insights from behavioral finance and cultural studies to meet the needs of Chinese international students. The app's features were refined through agile principles, iterative prototyping, A/B testing, and user feedback. Its AI system applies machine learning for personalized insights, while Figma ensures a seamless, intuitive interface.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Sors is a cross-platform mobile app for iOS and Android built with React Native for seamless performance on various devices. It uses AI algorithms for personalized insights and secure cloud storage for data sync. Its lightweight architecture ensures fast loading, accessibility, and user-friendly navigation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: For Sors, we conducted user-centered research to understand the financial challenges of Chinese international students abroad. The objective was to identify pain points in financial management and design an engaging, culturally sensitive solution. We used qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, interviews, and usability testing.
Participants included 50 Chinese international students aged 18–30, representing diverse educational and financial backgrounds. Research revealed vital pain points: lack of financial planning, difficulty maintaining budgets, and a need for more engaging tools. Insights highlighted the importance of visual spending analytics, gamification through rewards, and AI-driven financial tips.
The results shaped Sors as a tool for building strong financial habits with intuitive tracking, goal-setting, and personalized insights. This research influenced design by ensuring usability and relevance while addressing cultural nuances.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge in designing Sors was balancing cultural nuances and engagement for Chinese international students. Extensive research into spending habits and motivators was needed, while external hurdles like limited financial tools and varying legal frameworks added complexity. These challenges were addressed through iterative testing, AI customization, and user-focused solutions.
