DESIGN NAME: Desert Tranquility
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Exhibition Design
INSPIRATION: Nature transpires and inspires everything in this very vibrant and extraordinary setting, that clearly rejuvenates the heart and nourishes the soul of anyone experiencing it.
A harmonious blend of minimalism and warmth, inspired by the calmness of placid desert landscapes and soft organic shapes, the design language is pivoted around fluid modernism, where clean, curved outlines are paired with warm, earthy colours to evoke comfort and tranquility.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The superbly gorgeous sunset inspired wallpaper sets the theme & tone for this hotel room setup for relaxation as well as exhuberating radiant cheerful energies. The Design Philosophy "Desert Tranquility" draws inspiration from the serene beauty of a desert backdrop, while the down to earth palette of terracotta, beige and sandy tones mirror the soothing hues of a sunset. The wavy, flowing silhouettes in the bed, sofa and rugs evoke the quietness of shifting sands, creating an ensemble that feels both modern and alluring. Textural elements like plush upholstery and tasseled pillows enhance the sense of comfort, while understated furniture ensures functionality without clutter. Soft lighting and natural materials complete the look, making this space a peaceful, luxurious retreat that encourages mental repose by virtue of its connection to nature.
The most attractive feature, i.e the bed, provides an approachable look, wherein its oversized, cushioned form makes it an ideal sanctuary for rest, ideal for both lounging and sleeping. The use of burnt orange fabric and natural wood in the flooring connects us to nature, while accessories such as the flowing mirror frame and the metallic flower shaped floor lamp also mimic the same aesthetic. The rhythmic built in side table and gentle, unbroken lines emphasize a seamless flow, contributing to the philosophy of minimalism while offering functionality.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The aura of the exhibition totally transforms and elevates the experience of the visitors. Since, the setup is designed as a hotel room mockup to let the users experience a novel hospitality setting, it truly succeeds in its first attempt. It breaks the traditional arrangement of the stereotype hotel room setting and navigates into the world of biophilia to explore its richness and hence its psychological impact on the human mind.
The users connect with nature at a deeper level, especially the desert scenery fostering an immediate sense of well being along with the smooth curated environment.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The exhibition took 3 weeks for Design and assembly at site. It was exhibited in Expomart, Greater Noida, India for 4 days in August, 2024

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We were given an opportunity to design a Hotel Room Mock Up Installation in collaboration with the IIID (Indian Institute of Interior Designers), Delhi Chapter for the India International Hospitality (IHE) Expo at the Expomart, Greater Noida. This annually conducted exhibition sees a tremendous footfall from all over the world including hospitality industry giants as well as companies looking for sourcing in the hospitality arena.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The exhibition space setup was 4 metres x 5 metres x 2.4 metres (height)

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Our Research was primarily based on the subject of Biophilic Design and it’s role in modern hospitality interiors which seems to be the missing link in today’s projects where we see that there is more thrust on embellishment and luxury only. Hotels need travellers to unwind and have a sense of a home away from home rather than bedazzling people with metallic finishes and lighting. Hence there is respite in true connection to nature.
Thus research was undertaken in the area of biomorphic forms, furniture, geometries and the concept of cognitive architecture and biophilia.
CHALLENGE: The most challenging part was the extremely tight and rigorous deadline of only 3 weeks for Design & Execution. This time period also included getting all vendors on board, material sourcing, project management & co ordination between different parties and timely delivery of all the components.
Also, since time was a constraint, the biggest creative challenge was to be able to conceive product designs that could be executed and delivered within the time frame. The freedom to curate the entire setting unapologetically was curtailed.
