| DESIGN NAME: Osean PRIMARY FUNCTION: Digital Diving Log INSPIRATION: Osean was inspired by the scuba diving experiences of DG-Meteor designers, their learning from other experienced divers' logging practices, and their exploration of current diving logs on the market, which often prioritize practical and statistical use. As designers and animators, they find scuba diving inspiring in many way: the sensation of water, the intricacy of equipment, and the life beneath the surface. They envisioned a diving log that fulfills creative aspirations and shares their experiences, encouraging more people to discover and potentially join the sport of diving. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Osean is a diving log that utilizes user experience, infographics, data, illustrations, and animations to recreate the journey and memories for divers. It maintains traditional log features like tracking time, location, depth, safety stops, equipment, and diving journeys. Osean uses a minimal color palette to mimic day and night diving experience. Lines and grids maintain the feel of traditional charting, bridging the digital logging. Marine life swims between the lines, symbolizing exploration. Osean aims to share diving journeys with existing divers and attract potential divers, creating a fun and educational experience for all. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When users enter Osean, they join a diving trip with uiux designer Angie and animator Richan, exploring the ocean through engaging inforgraphics. Exploring the map of U.S. diving spots using data from PADI, an authorized diving organization. Hovering over the map reveals dive locations, and clicking directs users to PADI for trip details or logged dives. Further scrolling shows logged dives by Angie and Richan, featuring marine life or landscapes. Infographics display temperatures, trip duration, safety stop time, depth, and air levels. The floating menu allows quick section checks. The log concludes, hoping users enjoyed their dive journey. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project idea was formed in November 2023, with the concept and Prd finalized in January 2024. The website launched in June 2024 in Lake Forest, California. Ongoing iterations are planned. The next step is to maintain Osean's brand and style while returning to classic paper diving logs. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Osean brings the classic paper diving log online digitally, hosted on Webflow and utilizing code and development to enhance the user experience and interface designed by the product team. The user experience focuses on conveying information that divers learn, making it accessible and easy to share with a broader audience. Integrating Lottie animations, initiated from illustrations and images captured with a GoPro underwater, Osean identifies marine creatures and reimagines them in its unique brand style: a simple, humorous line art that captures the essence of underwater life. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Osean is a digital product, a public website and a blog that can be viewed at oseandive.com. TAGS: Web design, animation, Webflow, Lottie animations, scuba diving, marine life education, user experience, product design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research and static sites used: (1) Padi: The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (Padi) is an authorized diving organization that certifies divers and provides extensive knowledge about diving. Osean utilized Padi's resources to gather accurate, up-to-date information on various diving spots, safety, and best practices. (2) Reef Smart Guides: Provides detailed guides and maps for diving and snorkeling sites, including scientific illustrations on marine life, underwater topography, and specific dive features. This enhanced Osean's content with accurate, engaging information. CHALLENGE: Osean: Digital Diving Log has overcome technical development challenges during its build in Webflow. These challenges included implementing Lottie animations, coding animations, and meeting accessibility design requirements. The team ensured that all functions are aligned and working smoothly, provided responsive actions, and used interactive animations to guide viewers through a seamless experience with Osean.
