| DESIGN NAME: Infinity PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Clock INSPIRATION: Clocks give shape to time, but how can they enhance our connection with the passing of time, making it vividly present? How can we deepen the interaction between people, clocks, and time, beyond their utilitarian use? The design inspiration of Infinity comes from the infinite symbol in mathematics, hoping to enhance people's connection with time and let people value every second of life. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Infinity is a clock and a home space art installation inspired by the infinity symbol, using blue and orange indicators on its dial for hours and minutes, respectively. Designed with a light panel at the back, Infinity not only provides illumination at night but also creates a sense of time flow through light effects. To improve time readability, Infinity projects time information onto the wall. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Infinity elevates the infinity symbol into a three-dimensional dial, with blue and orange time indicators moving in a continuous loop yet never touching. These indicators on the inner and outer rings represent the continuous flow of time on the clock's face. The blue circle indicates hours; the orange square represents minutes, their movement driven by internal magnetic tracks. Time information, including specifics like date and time, is projected onto the wall by Infinity. For enhanced interactivity, tapping the wall accelerates the movement of the indicators and triggers the flowing light effect on the back panel. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project will begin in June 2023 and finished in February 2024 |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main materials used in Infinity are aluminum alloy and PP plastic. The aluminum alloy is processed and assembled by the sheet metal process, and the lamp board and the central transparent part are processed by the injection molding process. The whole assembly is mainly assembled by internal clips and screws. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 272mm x 40Depth mm x Height 500mm TAGS: Infinity, loop, time, clock, 3D, light RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research background of Infinity is that in the modern and fast-paced society, people's concept of time is becoming increasingly vague. We hope to change this situation through a clock and enhance people's attention to time. The method of design is to three-dimensional the infinite symbol in mathematics through the idea of infinite and cyclic elements, and to change the traditional pointer to a stronger form of indicator, and to add lighting effects in the interaction. Through this lamp, we hope to let people re-understand the shape of time and call on people to re-value time. CHALLENGE: In the design process of Infinity, the most difficult part is the creative transformation part, how to change time from intangible to tangible, and at the same time, it can play a normal clock and approximate to an installation art product. Finally, we adopted the infinite symbol in mathematics to transform the idea of circulation and infinity into a real product, thereby promoting people's connection with time through clocks and watches.
