| DESIGN NAME: Mountain Survival Backpack PRIMARY FUNCTION: Backpacking Raincoat INSPIRATION: As the epidemic subsides, hiking has become a national pastime. However, the dangers of mountain climbing have been overlooked, resulting in accidents. The causes of mountain accidents are often due to getting lost in the mountains and getting stranded in the mountains, or not keeping warm at night, which can lead to the risk of losing heat. So I thought about what mountaineers bring with them, and how people can protect themselves in case of danger. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: When a climber encounters a mountain disaster, a mountaineering backpack becomes his emergency survival gear. Due to the rainy conditions in mountainous areas, the backpack combines with a quick on/off mackintosh function to keep the body warm in case of danger. The backpack can be used as a rescue blanket to keep you warm while waiting for rescue. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Unbuckle the backpack and pull down the two side straps to turn it into a mackintosh. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is in continuous production from July 2023 until its completion in December. In May 2024, it will be exhibited in the school. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The outer fabric of the backpack is made of water repellent fabric. The two layers of water repellent fabric are sandwiched between aluminium foil to lock in the heat when the backpack becomes a mackintosh, keeping your body warm and dry. You need to carry an extra survival item to keep yourself safe. But I think it's important to think about how these items can be used in a different way when they are in danger, using the items they already carry. In addition, the most important thing is to keep your body warm when encountering a mountain disaster, so combining a backpack with a rescue blanket makes the backpack an emergency survival gear when encountering danger. CHALLENGE: A mountaineering backpack is a lightweight piece of equipment, but to combine with a rain jacket it must be stowed away cleanly and lightly. In addition, it often rains in the countryside, so the backpack quickly expands into a mackintosh, which is also a major problem to keep your body warm.
