DESIGN NAME: Planning Unplanned
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Wearable Sculpture Art
INSPIRATION: Planning unplanned originated from a curiosity about the interaction between human life and society. Starting from the ancient myth of Adam and Eve, who first wore clothes, I began this project to explore the idea that human life is burdened by the metaphorical garments we wear, expressing the complex threads of connection with societal issues and people.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: "Planning unplanned", a wearable textile sculpture, features diverse threads representing individuals or groups with homogeneous social labels. It illustrates how people from various social groups harmonize in our world. The timeline, depicted through techniques like our world, reflects unplanned social experiments. This piece conveys the weight of human relationships and societal issues throughout one's life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The wearable sculptures are designed to be worn or displayed in a gallery.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: It started in November 2019 and ends in February 2024. The whole making process was done in Baltimore and Washington D.C. and was exhibited in the McLean Project for the Arts in 2019

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Planning unplanned is composed of various threads made of fabrics with different dyes and textures, functioning as a wearable textile sculpture. Each line represents an individual or a group with a homogeneous social label, depicting how people from diverse social groups harmonize in the world we live in. It showcases a timeline describing each event through techniques such as tying, weaving, picking, and twisting. Every line interacts with each other, reflecting unplanned social experiment ideas. This artwork expresses the burden of all human relationships and societal issues carried throughout one's life as a human being.
CHALLENGE: In this project, rather than haphazardly twisting and coiling all the lines and threads, as the name of the project, I focused more on planning the production process first. I paid attention to expressing irregular and sudden patterns or shapes in the artwork, incorporating the unpredictability of the planning phase.
