DESIGN NAME: Cleopatra
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Box
INSPIRATION: This product was inspired during the summer season in Greece. While traveling by boat or dining outdoors in Cyclades during August, it is a bit windy. Being inspired by the necessity of having covered protected objects by the wind, we inspired, designed and created a box/ashtray that has a lid. The item was designed this way so that the air is prevented from scattering whatever is inside the box, for example, the ashes. Since we love natural things and this item had to be natural and luxurious, we conceived the half pyramid shape which is simple and aesthetically captivating while the material used is 100% Greek marble coming from a solid marble unit (meaning there are no stitched or glued pieces)
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Cleopatra's box is a multifunctional marble box that can be used as jewelry storage, an ashtray, and many more. Its uniqueness is its half pyramid design, that the product comes from a solid marble unit - it has no stitches- and it is naturally varnished for water protection. 100% natural elements were used to create it.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This object has many functions. It can be operated as an ashtray with a protected lid and also as a jewellery storage or more.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in August 2023 and finished in October 2023 in Athens. It is exhibited in 47 Circles Art & Design Gallery in Athens, Greece.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This a marble object. The design of this item was challenging because we had to find the exact dimensions to create the right half pyramid shape. In the meantime it had to be from a solid marble unit, we didn't want pieces to have glued pieces and stitches. The marbles come from different parts of Greece.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Dimensions 7cm X 7cm X 4cm
TAGS: Cleopatrabox, ashtray, marbleashtray, marble, ashtrays
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The biggest research about this object was to design the right dimensions in order for the shape to look like a half pyramid. Additional research had to be done in order to find the best marble materials around Greece and the proper technique to create it.
CHALLENGE: The main obstacle to the design was the right dimensions, corners, and lid weight to have a beautiful half pyramid result. The hardest part of the project was to find a solid marble unit so that it could come in one piece and with no stitches. These solid marble units are hard to find. Also, the quality of the marble units had to be carefully selected.
