| DESIGN NAME: Rizona PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mirror INSPIRATION: Rizona draws inspiration from the varied contours of the canyons in Arizona. Mimicking the irregular lines found within these geological wonders, the form reflects their natural waves. The objective was to integrate a design that would translate the essence of the inspiration. The mirror's organic form and material faithfully echo the beauty of the canyons. Furthermore, the varied tones within the wood show the play of light and shadows in the canyons. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In an innovative endeavor, a simple material has been transformed into a beautifully sculpted creation, breaking away from its usual straight-lined appearance. By highlighting the natural grain patterns of the wood, its authentic essence has been preserved, creating a truly organic feel. An intentional choice to embrace the rawness of the material, forms a deep connection to nature. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Rizona, a mirror that translates the essence of Arizona's majestic canyons directly into your living space. With its organic forms and earthy material, Rizona gives you a visual appeal like no other - seamlessly blending the beauty of nature with your interiors. By incorporating this mirror into your home, you infuse your surroundings with a sense of calm and bring the outdoors, in. It's more than just a mirror; it's a gateway to a serene and visually captivating atmosphere right in the heart of your home. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Birchply is used innovatively in this product where thin layers have been cut precisely using the latest machines to ensure the shapes align exactly how it was imagined. These layers have then been fused, sanded very carefully and precisely to unveil beautiful veins. Hours of sanding and a final protective layer has been used to seal the finish. The mirror has then been laid to complete the function of the desired form. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 40 inches Height x 23 inches Width x 6 inches Depth TAGS: Arizona, Mirror, Wood, Birch Ply, Handmade, Arisaa, Home Decor, Interior Decor, Interior RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Conversations with people from different communities and classes revealed that most people found modern designs to be cold and futuristic. Instead of following the trend, the idea was to create something that truly evoked warmth in spaces. The result was a desired one where the design makes a person feel curious, excited and draws people in for conversations, making the space come alive. CHALLENGE: The mission was to capture the graceful, flowing movements seen in the Arizona canyons. Multiple ideas were explored – parametric designs, some extremely complicated forms, a lot of materials as well were explored along with those forms but nothing quite fit. Eventually, a basic material but its intricate veins that showed up after sanding, is what made the perfect sense to use as a material. Once that was decided, the forms followed. The result was something unexpected, something truly beautiful.
