| DESIGN NAME: Arrival PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lightning Collection INSPIRATION: The collection is inspired by the past and present cultural vision of the image of light as knowledge and truth transmitted by beings from the otherworld to ours. The ceiling plate resembles a portal to heavenly world of angels or space of aliens. The fixtures refer to two images: the wings of an angel as well as the shape of the alien’s spaceship from the movie Arrival. The surface of the ceiling plate and the lamps has wavy curves referring to the wave nature of light propagation. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The image of the lighting collection is designed to bring to the apartment such sensations of light as otherness and intuitiveness, on the one hand, and iconicity and orderliness, on the other. This feeling is achieved by the image of the lighting fixtures, which refer to the past and present of human perception of the otherworld and beings arriving from the outside, who are angels and aliens bringing light as knowledge to mankind. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The two chandeliers and the pendant lamp are height-adjustable. The wall lamp is switched on from the side on the base and has two modes of illumination: soft light towards the wall and main light directed outwards towards the room. Moreover, the light of the wall lamp, directed towards the wall, does not spread direct light to the sides due to the increased mirroring of the surface towards the base of the lamp. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The plafonds of the fixtures are made of smoked glass with light galvanization to achieve a complex transparency and create a play of reflections on the surface when the lamps are switched off. The ceiling panel is made of stainless steel with a mirror in the center (to create an otherworldly effect) and a backlighting around the edges (to create a halo effect). SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Chandelier with 5 plafonds: 650 mm x 650 mm x 650-1500 mm Chandelier with 3 plafonds: 520 mm x 520 mm x 650-1500 mm Pendant lamp with 2 plafonds: 210 mm x 350 mm x 800-2000 mm Wall lamp: 210 mm x 160 mm x 400 mm TAGS: Lighting collection, Arrival, Aliens, Angels, Chandelier, Pendant lamp, Wall lamp RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The survey of customers and market research showed that there is a demand for a form different from tending to geometricism and unambiguous interpretation. It was also noted that there are practically no projects on the market that artistically reveal the nature of light and folk associations related to the being of light. Therefore, it was decided to develop a symbolic project related to the understanding of light as a communication medium between the earthly and heavenly existence. CHALLENGE: The most significant challenges encountered were in creating a visual and physical balance between the parts of the composition. The issue was solved by the addition of a glass balancer, which is identical in mass to the plafond and similar in shape to it. The composition also actively employs the proportion of the golden ratio in the forms, and the patterns of wave propagation on surfaces are carried out in accordance with the sequence of Fibonacci numbers.
