| DESIGN NAME: Orizzonte 03 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Waiter's Wallet INSPIRATION: When I was fishing before dawn and saw the blue hour landscape, I noticed that the scale pattern on the fish leather resembled ocean waves and came up with the idea of a leather item that represents the sea with fish leather and the sky with gradient leather. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The concept is 'Carry the scenery with you'. The fish leather represents ocean waves and the gradient leather sky colour change, depicting the landscape of the horizon. The colour variations are named 'L'ora blu' (Blue hour), 'L'ora magica' (Magic hour) and 'Il notturno' (Night scene), with the sea and sky of each time represented by the fish leather and gradient leather. Taking a hint from the shape of the Waiter's Wallet used by waiters when recieving the bill, the design was created using the Fu-kin-machi, a traditional Japanese technique unique to Japan, to create a small yet large capacity and easy-to-use design. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: I've designed a compact and user-friendly wallet capable of holding approximately 10 plastic cards, 15 banknotes, and over 20 coins. The design features a single opening for easy access to coins, banknotes, and cards. The wallet is intended for vertical use, with the fingers inserted into oppositsaide of the banknote slot for convenient access. I've created two variants to cater to both left-handed and right-handed users. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project as a brand started in November 2021. Samples of this item were completed in July 2023 and pre-orders started in August 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We have crafted a wallet that combines the traditional Japanese technique of Fu-kin-machi, with the practicality of a "Waiter's Wallet" shape. This wallet is thin yet spacious, making it easy to handle even when carrying a large amount of items. In addition, we have paid attention to the smallest details by incorporating a Nen-biki technique on the edges. By applying heat with a hot iron just a few millimeters from the edge, we enhance the adhesiveness of the edges, increasing the durability and flexibility of the leather while also refining the overall appearance of the leather item. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W85×H115×D25mm Fish leather:Skin of Salmon Gradient leather:Steerhide TAGS: Fish leather, Salmon, Gradient leather, Calfskin, Wallet,Traditional Japanese techniques RESEARCH ABSTRACT: By making effective use of fish skin as fish leather, which would otherwise have been thrown away, the company believes it is possible to reduce the burden on the environment. In addition, the design not only uses fish leather, but also makes use of the fish scale pattern. CHALLENGE: After continually searching for a way to achieve a beautiful gradation and repeatedly making samples, we were finally able to create a gradation leather that we were satisfied with. NAME: L'ora blu PROFILE: The moment when the world turns blue for just a moment between the beginning and the end of the day." L'ora blu" is inspired by the sea in the "blue hour". The scale pattern of the fish leather represents "ocean waves" and the gradation leather represents "the changing sky". We depict beautiful scenery in leather and offer leather items that make you want to gaze them all the time. |
