| DESIGN NAME: Lucid Dream PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring INSPIRATION: The ring, "Lucid Dream", reflects the designer's shift from doubt to confidence during the pandemic's stillness, inspired by ancient compasses that guided lost explorers through uncharted territories. These symbols of navigation and resilience now imbue the Lucid Dream with a sense of direction and strength. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Lucid Dream is aimed at transcending gender, its elegant design emphasizes simplicity and power. Its unique design, featuring twin triangles on the band, serves as an inspiration, guiding like the North Star for fearless explorers. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It can be worn by both men and women as a cocktail ring or tail ring. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: In early October 2023, the design will be carried out in Shanghai. In mid-November, production began at the Shenzhen jewelry factory, and by the end of December, the ring production was completed. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Firstly, the "Lucid Dream" ring used shapes, like triangles, to symbolize direction and goals. At the heart of the ring's design is an abstract shape that looks like an eye, made from diamonds and the emerald. The addition of black onyx and diamonds adds depth and elegance to the ring. Secondly, the ring is made of 18K yellow gold, for its beauty and strength. The main gem is a bright green 0.4ct emerald from Zambia, representing life and growth, surrounded by 0.34ct of sparkling diamonds. Black onyx is also used, adding a bold contrast to the design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Height 26.5mm Width 18.5mm 18k yellow gold: 5.67g TAGS: Ring, unisex, 18k, emerald, fashionable RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Yifan Gao's study used two main methods: looking into trends and checking how consumer habits change. The designer first studied trends with websites like WGSN and POP, focusing on how widespread these trends were and their online popularity. Then Yifan gathered jewelry experts in group discussions for more insights. The results showed that people are now more interested in buying products that are sustainable, mindful, and authentic. CHALLENGE: Creating this ring faced two main challenges. The first was designing the triangles on the ring's sides to be both beautiful and durable. The aim was to make them look good, and feel comfortable to wear. The second challenge was picking the right emerald. It needed to be a specific size (0.45*0.45mm) that matched the ring's design perfectly and also represented the ring's meaning.
