| DESIGN NAME: After Rain Comes The Rainbow PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Appreciation INSPIRATION: Every day, after finishing his studies at the university, the artist would walk along a long pathway before reaching his home. He couldn't help but wonder why there were so many trash bags strewn across the street, seemingly untouched for a long time. This wasn't an isolated occurrence; he noticed it happening frequently in the same location during the pandemic. Intrigued, the artist began documenting these scenes and started to imagine the positive aspects of the city's waste, hoping to find happiness and tranquility amidst the chaos. He firmly believed that "After Rain Comes The Rainbow." UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This art project was initiated by the Art Promotion Office of the Government, aimed at inviting local artists and designers to create artwork and provide opportunities for the general public to appreciate art. The project consists of seven pieces depicting the city's trash problem during the pandemic in Hong Kong. Over the years, the artist had witnessed a significant amount of trash bags dumped on the main street. One day, he imagined these trash bags transforming into a cluster of balloons, slowly floating up in the air, only to collapse and melt into a liquid state at eye level. Each day seemed to bring no significant change - "Good Morning" was no different from "Good Night." Despite the unfavorable circumstances, the artist tried to embrace them and would tell himself, "Don't Worry. Be Happy," with the hope that "After Rain Comes The Rainbow." OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The artwork series created through direct observation, interviews, photos, sketches and drawing before starting to paint on a piece of canvas. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The artist's painting style and sketching technique are unique. He used acrylic markers and hand-painted each artwork slowly to preserve the brush strokes visible on the canvas. The composition of the paintings was carefully considered to create a dynamic and moving effect with the balloons. The artist's color palette, consisting of 30 vibrant, fluorescent, and lively colors, reflects his imaginative vision. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This is a series of seven pieces of artworks. Each artwork is 120cm x 120cm x 5cm mounted on a piece of fine wooden frame. TAGS: rainbow, observation, obstacle, balloon, contemporary art, imagination RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In addition to the trash bags, the artist also observed various obstacles along the street on a typical day, which he found to be unusual and surreal. He believed that everything we can imagine has a reality to it. CHALLENGE: The project lasted for ten months and had to be completed within a tight schedule. The artist spent a few months conducting observations, interviews, and photo shoots to ensure the accuracy of the patterns depicted in his artwork. He then began the drafting process, relying on his instinct and memory.
