DESIGN NAME: Black and White
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Installation
INSPIRATION: As an artist with a printmaking degree, I tend to focus more on that field, however I use more uncommon ways to produce works that fall in the same category, thus making printmaking more conceptual and sharing my ideas with other artists, how to continue within this field but without the use of the equipment or some of the essential printmaking materials. My main goal is to better the printmaking community in my country and to motivate new generations to continue experimenting within this field of art. My art themes warry from social stigmas, to ecology related matters. I always try to work on more different everyday themes that concern the everyday individual.
Right now, I focus more on the eco friendly aspect in printmaking. At the beginning of this year I started to recycle and create handmade paper for a project residency in Zadar, Croatia at the beginning of May. The form itself of the paper has a hexagonal shape, representing the perfect form created by nature, without any human interventions. The idea is to create a monumental work, by shewing all the paper materials with hemp to create story of the place where I will stay (Zadar) with different prints and drawings of the residency. All the prints will be done with watercolor, so the environment doesn’t suffer the toxic materials. Another thing that I will also learn there is how to make and produce my work in VR (virtual reality) form. With this new knowledge I hope to extend my ideas for the future in with new concepts.
Another big project that I am working on, is an extended version of my previous solo exhibitions, this time I am collaborating with my colleague Ivana Samandova because of its big scale. Mainly the project is based on the experimental printmaking, its possibilities and this time we want to show that printmaking a as technique and as a part of gallery exhibition can be interactive with the public. The main theme of this exhibition comes from the Freudian Iceberg, thus showing what we hide, what we want people to see and what we show as people with a series od drawings done on plastic glass that will cover all the surfaces of the gallery space. The material is transparent, and will allow only the drawings to prosper all over the space. Later on, all of these plastic plates will be printed and will be shown in a new exhibition during the year 2023. The interactive part of this space installation is, that all the visitors can add their own drawing, to engrave it with a special needle, that will be seen later on next year in the print.
Overall, I try to reach different points and themes, mainly keeping the idea of execution, which is promoting contemporary printmaking and its possibilities to the wide range audience. With this I want to bring a bigger highlight with the themes I am working on, making them more understandable to the wide audience and also inspiring future generations to better and bring contemporary printmaking to a higher more respectable level in my country.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The radical technological changes that have taken place in the field of graphics over the last twenty years have completely changed the artist's attitude towards the media and the centuries-old recognizable traditional graphic practice. Beyond the boundaries of local creativity, graphics today are a global art form that consists of a combination of multiple media simultaneously such as sculpture, performance, installation, action, ready-made, combination of digital with traditional and its implementation in numerous media, as a result of which there is a complete intertwining of the existing ones, without setting a sharp boundary, where graphics end as a discipline, and from where it turns into something else. However, from on the other hand, the printing process itself is inextricably linked, and relies heavily on the traditional way of printing, with a clear intention to "bring closer" the traditional graphic techniques in the field of larger contemporary art practice so that to relate to and respond to the formal, technical or conceptual problems posed by contemporary artistic discourse. This is why the idea of "expansion" appears. In the field of graphics as an artistic discipline and practice, a desire to maintain and recognize the specificity of printing and to place it within a larger discussion that will allow graphics to find and retain its place in the field of contemporary art. The "extended field", as an conceptual concept, sounds like a location for uninterrupted research, interpretation and reinterpretation, experimentation, creation and re-creation of something known, yet completely new and undiscovered. In fact, the very concept of "expansion" can be understood at the same time as "strengthening, increasing, spreading one's own influence from one sphere to another". Hence, with this expansion of graphics, this discipline undoubtedly "intertwines" and influences another, while establishing a relationship of mutual communication between creative practices involved and assimilated in the process. As a model in contemporary art discourse, she first appeared in Rosalind Krauss's 1979 essay entitled "Sculpture in the Expanded Field," in which Krauss referred to what she considered to be a "clumsy attitude" between the word "sculpture." and the activities of the artists involved in it ", an eclecticism which, according to Kraus, was" the unification of different practices, set in opposition within the then cultural situation ", which on the other hand, if elaborated more deeply, taking into account the wide range of media and practices that graphics today are able to integrate into their primary frames, it is easy to understand why the concept of the "extended field" needs to be develops from this perspective as well.
