| DESIGN NAME: Snap LP Limited Edition PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair INSPIRATION: Snap celebrates Milanese culture's rich heritage and excellence in fashion, furniture design, and architecture, reflecting also my professional formation, while it pays homage to Cyprus, my homeland, with its ancient tradition of wool production. The wool, sourced from past collections at a clearance event of the prestigious Milan-based brand Loro Piana, known for high-quality fabrics, echoes sustainability, intertwining the chair with a rich heritage. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Snap materialized from my desire to experiment with new techniques, particularly in sewing, transforming luxurious extra fine wool fabric from a Loro Piana clearance event, into a distinctive, sustainable furniture piece of art. The name Snap signifies its innovative design a chair that snaps onto its steel structure, inspired by the fabric's pattern, like a tailored coat. Handcrafted cushions, filled with ethically sourced non-mulesing merino wool, reflect a commitment to sustainability. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The Snap Armchair operates as a functional yet transformative piece of furniture. Its "snapping" cushions offer adaptability. The back piece, if used independently, can alternatively serve as both back and seating, allowing for customizable configurations. This innovative design prioritizes sustainability, providing a dynamic and personalized seating experience with enhanced functionality. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Meticulously handcrafted cushions with traditional sewing techniques (Singer domestic machine), the Snap Armchair seamlessly blends craftsmanship and innovative design. Its steel structure, inspired by the fabric's pattern, and cushions filled with non-mulesing merino wool underscore a commitment to sustainable luxury. Employing a qualitative approach, data collection involved fabric analysis, sewing experimentation, and user feedback. Insights revealed the potential for merging fashion elements into furniture. CHALLENGE: The most challenging aspect was seamlessly blending fashion and furniture design in the Snap Armchair. Overcoming limited sewing experience and transforming high-end fabric into functional yet sustainable furniture posed internal challenges. Navigating historical design norms and societal expectations demanded a delicate balance. External factors like sourcing specific materials within sustainable guidelines and harnessing technology for intricate sewing were hurdles. Adapting to both traditional craftsmanship and modern design tools became crucial.
