DESIGN NAME: Metamorphosis
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Garments
INSPIRATION: The collection draws inspiration from the personal experience of a close friend who endured bullying and body shaming during their school years. In an age dominated by social media, the perception of self-image can often be stretched to unsettling extremes.
The research undertaken encompasses the works of beloved manga artist Ito Junji, surrealism maestros like Salvador Dali and Dorothea Tanning, as well as digital artist Jesse Kanda. Within their creations, one observes the human form undergoing mesmerizing transformations, liberated from the constraints of gravity. The outcome can be thought-provoking.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The focal point of the fabric design in this collection was centered around sustainability. All the textiles featured were carefully selected from surplus stocks and rejuvenated through a range of innovative techniques. The emphasis on sustainability in clothing design encompasses a reduction in waste and a more deliberate production process. Each fabric demanded precise manual craftsmanship, including intricate embroidery and beadwork. The hope is that the audience will have an appreciation for the demonstrated artistry.
