DESIGN NAME: Brave New World
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Fashion Collection
INSPIRATION: This collection draws inspiration from Huxley's "Brave New World," depicting a dystopian society where technological-driven prosperity masks the loss of freedom and what it means to be human.
Each silhouette was made into two colors -vibrant colors and muti-textured black to portray the contrast between the illusory world of false prosperity and the inner emptiness of emotions.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: I have always pondered how fashion can make impact on society. I believe that fashion is not just about aesthetic expression, it is also an art form initiates conversations about society. I created this collection with this perspective in mind.
This inspiration is abstract, thus, I chose an abstract approach- utilizing both black and vibrant colors in the same silhouettes- to convey my reflections on this topic. I aspire for my work to pique people's interest and provoke contemplation on topic.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This collection was initially conceived to create a visual impact using two distinct color palettes, prompting reflection on the influence of modern fragmented, entertainment-focused information on contemporary society. Simultaneously, I ensured that each look remained visually appealing and wearable by incorporating rich colors and -as for all black looks- rich layers and textures. This collection caters to two distinct groups: those who appreciate bold, colorful styles and those who prefer a more subdued, black-centric aesthetic.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2019 and finished in December 2019 in New York and Published by HUFMAGAZINE in 2020.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: From abstract concepts, I extracted concrete elements - Television - a symbol of the transition from traditional media to the new media revolution in 1930s. By draping fabric around a television, a primary element of silhouette was created. Additionally, I employed weaving and knitting techniques to craft a chaotic blend of colors, symbolizing the tangled web of the information age. I also utilized new fabrics to envelop the human form, creating a constrained visual sensation while ensuring actual comfort when worn.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In the initial stages of design, I delved into Huxley's "Brave New World" and Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death". Reading these works provided the framework of the message I want to convey visually and the elements to materialize the concept. Subsequently, I explored numerous art works centered around the theme of information explosion society. Eventually, I decided to represent these themes using distinct color palettes—a colorful one and a muti-textured black one.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of this collection lies in transforming an abstract concept into physical art. In terms of design details, I extracted the shape of the information conveying medium—television, as part of the silhouette. Additionally, I used fabric texture to portray the glitch effect from TV screens, representing information overload or loss. In terms of overall style, while a typical fashion collection adheres to a specific style and color palette, I intentionally divided this series into two completely different color domains to create a visual contrast. I aim to pique viewers' interest by highlighting the narrative through these style differences.
