| DESIGN NAME: Sadness Comedy PRIMARY FUNCTION: Womenswear Collection INSPIRATION: The concept 'Sad-Comedy UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The innovation of this design lies in its meticulously crafted silhouette, intricate construction, and distinctive shape. It seamlessly transforms simple gatherings into exquisite details, elevating the overall construction. The design exudes a captivating sense of drama, making it truly one-of-a-kind. From its technical precision to its quality craftsmanship, every aspect of this design has been thoughtfully considered to create a piece that stands out in both form and function. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Beyond being a mere garment, it transcends into a piece of art. Its intricate structure conveys a dramatic emotional narrative, offering the wearer a unique experience of coexisting in reality while becoming an active participant in their own theatrical production. This transformational aspect not only enhances the wearer's connection with the piece but also delivers a heightened sense of personal engagement and expression. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2023 in London and finished in May of the same year, culminating with the Noir Show in June. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The core technique employed in the design process is meticulous gathering. Through extensive experimentation, I explored various gathering techniques, experimenting with different construction methods. Additionally, I conducted in-depth research on the properties of crinoline and rigid interfacing materials. The innovative aspect of the design lies in the fusion of crinoline and rigid interfacing, resulting in a striking and uniquely expansive silhouette. This synthesis of materials and techniques played a pivotal role in achieving the final design's distinctive character. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The whole collection is 3 pieces, uk size 12. TAGS: Fashion design, Womenswear, Gown ,Creative Silhouette, Creative design, Costume sculpture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Drawing from research into societal and psychological dimensions, my approach involved utilizing the gathering technique to symbolize the tension and transformational states imposed by these influences. Additionally, I conducted practical experiments where I actively engaged with the fabrics, mirroring how societal and cultural forces interact with human behavior in the real world. This research has provided unique insights into the intricate relationship between society, culture, and individual behavior, with potential implications for various real-life phenomena encompassing business, society, and the very essence of design itself. CHALLENGE: Within the research phase, one of the most challenging aspects was striking a balance between consumer preferences and my own design vision. To address this challenge, I conducted interviews with consumers across various brands and combined their insights with my own reflections. On a technical level, a significant hurdle was understanding the impact of varying levels of gathering on garment structure and volume. Through extensive research, meticulous analysis of actual garments, and a series of experiments, I successfully tackled this issue. This research not only informed my design decisions but also yielded valuable insights that have potential implications for various real-life contexts, including business, society, and the field of design itself.
