PRIMARY FUNCTION: Secure Ice Tartar
INSPIRATION: Alcohol and date rape drugs are the most frequently used drugs in drink-spiking incidents. Moderate drinking itself is not guilty, but those who use it to harm others are guilty. Secetar could test for alcohol level and date rape drugs. That means it can increase the safety of alcohol, to create a safer drinking environment. While allowing drinkers to drink at ease, it also serves as a warning to wrongdoers.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Secetar is designed to test the alcohol level of alcoholic drink and whether it contains date rape drugs, aiming to make sure that alcoholic drink is safe for people, especially women. The surface of it could reflect different colors of light depending on the alcohol level. It will sound an audible alarm when date rape drugs are detected.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The bar offers Secetar, or drinkers bring their own. Put it into the drink. Its surface reflects different colors of light depending on the alcohol level. It sounds an audible alarm when date rape drugs are detected. After drinking, wash and refrigerate it for the next use. If the alarm dies, you can put Secetar in the box to wirelessly charge the internal audible alarm.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2023 and finished in February 2023 in Guangzhou.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The core technology of Secetar is Portable colorimetric photonic indicator for ethanol concentration sensing. The novel portable colorimetric photonic indicator (CPI) that can distinguish alcohol with concentrations from 0 to 100 % was ingeniously fabricated by bridging the copolymer capable of autonomic solvent control with porous structure via shape memory photonic crystals. CPI shows an ultrafast color response to the perception of ethanol concentration and outputs structural colors from blue to red.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We investigate and research the phenomenon of drink spiking with the purpose of finding a solution that can effectively curb drink spiking and create a safer drinking environment for drinkers. Many young adults aim for a state of tipsiness or semi-drunk. But due to the current situation highly alcoholic drinks are often hidden in inconspicuous packaging. Alcohol and date rape drugs are the most frequently used drugs in drink-spiking incidents. Young women are common targets of drink spiking and the harms resulting include sexual assault, robbery, and unsafe sex.
CHALLENGE: In the process of project development, we were once limited by the choice of product subject and the realization of detection technology. In the choice of design carrier, we focus on whether the designed product can be used naturally by users, rather than limited to the product performance and embarrassed to use. Finally, we creatively chose ice tartar as the design carrier, which could perfectly fit into the usage scene. In addition, finding the matching detection technique can be quite difficult. This requires consideration of production cost and technical feasibility. Fortunately, we were able to solve the problem.
