DESIGN NAME: Daarben
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunction Furniture
INSPIRATION: Daarben is a collection of furniture and intelligent lighting that is inspired by trees and can be used in both urban and green spaces. Tables and chairs are designed to look like the roots and trunks of trees, and the canopy and lighting are inspired by the leaves and branches of trees. This is based on the memories, experiences, and interactions that people around the world, regardless of cultural, societal, and geographical differences have had. providing such a relaxing and calm atmosphere.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main body includes a table and its canopy, allowing users to hold friendly or official meetings, study, work with a laptop, and eat food and snacks.
Chairs can be used for short and long-term rest.
The lighting system automatically turns on and provides a safe space during the darkness.
Heat radiation elements and infrared rays warm the table and chair on cold days.
Birds can use the top of the canopy to build a nest without the interaction and relationship between humans and birds.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Daarben can connect to the phone through Bluetooth, its intelligent system is also communicated to users in the form of a QR code and the formation of a plaque engraved and installed on the side of Daarben's desk, and then, users can change its light color.
Also, users can connect while playing a song on their phone so Daarben can adjust the intensity and type of lighting colors based on the music being played.
the goal is to create a space based on the taste and needs of users so it can create a private room for its users with invisible boundaries.
most of our memories with trees are related to daytime and light. With its lighting and heating system, works with sensors, Daarben makes memorable memories and experiences with a suitable and desired atmosphere, even in the city's night. It can turn even a simple nightinto an opportunity to empty your mind of too many thoughts.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2022 in Tehran and finished in July 2022 in Tehran

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Daarben's body can be produced from multi-layer (plywood) or recycled wood connected by screws modularly (can be combined in any desirable numbers). Also, in the base part, there is a space for placing electrical equipment and a control system for sensors and lighting connected to the Bluetooth system, temperature sensor, light sensor, solar cells, and LED strings.
The body's construction according to the type of wood used has the possibility of wood bending or CNC during production. Also, the wood material, while having a suitable and natural texture, is more durable throughout the year and during the cold and hot seasons and does not undergo severe deformation with temperature changes. Also, the type of connection of wood to each other is in the form of crotch and tongue and the use of bolts and nuts, so that both during the production process and during the collection and recycling process, there is minimal waste of energy and materials and maximum compatibility with sustainable design. Also, depending on the environment, it is possible to cover the wood surface with protective materials to prevent environmental damage.
The dimensions and size of the structure are such that after the end of its life, what can reuse in the form of recycled parts and even small temporary structures.
The lighting and the solar cell system on Daarben (including solar cells, control circuit, and energy storage battery) help reduce power plants' energy consumption during the lack of electricity supply. It also reduces the destruction and violence in such environments and brings lighting and security to the park to provide activities.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Due to the modularity of each cut of Daarben, it is possible to change its size and dimensions depending on the type of application and the target community. (change the width and Depth based on the number of users)
But the assumption is the standard dimensions for the picnic tables: around 200 cm Depth x 75 cm Width (for 3 people per side) x 275 cm Height of light. (the chairs are not included)

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research project was done with library research, interviews with experts, and assessment of the concepts with the group of users until the final design was determined.
Meanwhile, the principles of sustainable design by Carlo Vezzoli and also some design principles of The Polytechnic University of Milan (use of "emotion" and "memory" of the users in design) have been the general framework and guide of the project.
Vezzoli, C., & Manzini, E. (2008). Design for environmental sustainability
CHALLENGE: The first challenge of this project was to design its form in such a way that it can be used in many cities and residential areas with different cultures without creating conflict and incompatibility with its environment.
As the second challenge, finding a common element or memory among most people, the final answer was trees and having a picnic.
And the last challenge of this project was how to create tangible privacy with an invisible boundary for the user and others.
