DESIGN NAME: To My Love
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The project serves a couple. It is their first home, with their preferred elements of simplicity and lines. In addition, they expect an open-plan public area. The designer took a modern, minimalist style with a functional design to form a comfortable home for the couple.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The clients expect large-capacity storage. Therefore, in the public area, the designer placed storage cabinets according to the position of the beams and columns. This approach visually aligns with the sharp corners of the beams and achieves a spacious visual effect. In the private area, the space under the bed is planned as a couch to store winter clothes or large bedding. Comprehensive storage makes life more convenient and is a basic requirement for a home.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project realized a large amount of storage in a small space. The designer measured the space, updated the layout, and made use of the irregular areas in the public and private areas to place storage cabinets. In the public area, a wood-grained cabinet extends from the TV wall to the foyer, while an open laminate provides convenience facing the entrance. In the private area, in addition to the couch in the guest bedroom, a dressing room is planned in the master bedroom according to the direction of lighting.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in September 2022 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials: cement paint, marble, wood flooring, system cabinet, polished quartz tile, flat brick, etc. The color scheme is based on the original look of the building materials. The w laminate flooring with a warm impression provides a warm atmosphere and balances the gray tone in the space. Echoing the slightly stained gray wooden flooring, the facades are finished in the same shade of cement paint, and the entrance is finished with a costly marble.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The site is a new apartment with a total area of 59.5 square meters on the 10th floor, with 2 plus 1 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and two bathrooms. The original layout was three bedrooms. The designer re-planned the partitions according to the number of occupants. The partition between one of the bedrooms and the master bedroom is removed, allowing the master bedroom to have a dressing room and a four-piece bathroom. Moreover, the original location of the dining table caused a waste of space, so it is transformed to connect to the kitchen island and extended to the kitchen.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The designer planned the project according to the family's preferred style and living habits. The space is decorated with classic and neutral grayscale and decorated with lines and minimalistic elements to shape an orderly aesthetic that meets the client's expectations. At the same time, the designer arranged spacious circulation in the small space to magnify the visual effect. The project replaces the extra volume in the space with paint to eliminate the cramped impression, while the neat lines on the walls and cabinets show meticulous attention to detail.
CHALLENGE: The project is of great significance to the client couple. It is their first home. They pay extra attention to every detail of the space, and the project tends to be magnified by the few materials, which is a challenge that every designer must face. The perfect project cannot be planned by one person but must be drawn with the advice of others to achieve it, especially in residential design. The home is where people spend most of their time, so the project must be done with a small variety of materials to great effect.
