DESIGN NAME: Cascade
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The project serves an extended family with members ranging in age from 25 to 90 years old. Under the condition that each person's aesthetics are different, the designer creates a space tailored to each person's needs according to floor differentiation. In the public area, a balance was struck between the aesthetics of the family members, with a grayscale base and titanium-plated metal to showcase the grand, creating a residence with a hotel-like design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Customized space: The client couple has their needs for gatherings. For this reason, the designer planned different styles of areas in the public area and installed a sliding door to keep the connection between them. Meticulously Planned Functionality: In addition to the basic storage and circulation, the designers' ingenuity is shown in the details. For example, the bedroom area with storage, the cabinets to meet the privacy concerns of the elders, and the installation of sensitive lighting for the elders.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In the beginning, for the client's family, there was no necessity for interior design for their home. However, the process of planning the home with the designer gradually changed their mind about interior design. Interior design is necessary because it is the container that holds the family's life and fits the family's exclusive memories. After professional planning, the space is functional, comfortable, and cozy in a way that is not comparable to furnishings, completely overturning the stereotypical image of the client's family.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in December 2022 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials: marble, iron, eco-friendly paint, moru glass, titanium-plated trim, lacquered glass, roller blinds, etc. The color scheme is purely based on elegant grayscale. Marble is used for large areas, and its texture naturally expresses luxury and grandeur. Meanwhile, details of iron and titanium plated trim create a comfortable and just-right highlight. Finally, light-transmitting materials are installed at appropriate angles to allow for better interaction with daylight.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The family's diverse opinions posed a challenge in terms of designing a cohesive style. After balancing everyone's inputs, the designer created a spacious and comfortable public area reminiscent of a hotel, ideal for receiving visitors. The private area was tailored to each family member's preferred style, creating a calming atmosphere with a colorful touch. The project proved successful, as the client's family shifted their perspective on interior design, aligning with the designer's philosophy and core values.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of the project was 'planning'. Interior design is not a work of art, it must be practical. Because the space serves multiple people and the client's family had never been involved in interior design before, the designer had to consider each family member's ideas to present their ideal home. No matter how a communication gap between the two parties was inevitable. By following a step-by-step guide, the designer was able to perfectly integrate their diverse and complex ideas into the interior.
