DESIGN NAME:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residential Garden

INSPIRATION:
The local forest was the inspiration for this garden design. The trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants growing in the woods dictated the range of garden plants. Slope issues drove design decisions - in steep and inaccessible areas it was necessary to create platforms and paths to make the entire site accessible. The large stones found on the plot became the accents of the garden and gently blended with the new and existing vegetation. Woodland creates a wonderful background for garden design.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The plot is surrounded by mature forest and the whole area is on a slope. The garden is designed so that the irregularly shaped plot blends into the woodland environment. Design elements such as paths, plantings, flower beds and lawns are designed to replicate the shape of a trapezoid. Although the entire garden is equipped with modern technology, it looks wild and blends naturally with the forest. Most of the area is in part shade situation, that creates a magical woodlans mood in entire garden.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The fwoodland garden is part of the surrounding natural forest. Woodland flora and fauna thrive in this garden. The owners of the plot enjoy the hospitality of nature and create favorable conditions for birds and other fauna. The garden is also convenient for people. The forest paths allows to reach all areas of the garden and experience all the sights, sounds and smells of the woods. The garden helps to get to know and experience nature.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The construction of the garden began in October 2018 and was completed in September 2021 in Vilnius district, Lithuania.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The garden is modernly landscaped for easy maintenance. A watering system, lawn robot, garden lighting are installed. Garden design elements are locally sourced natural materials - stone, concrete, gravel. Slope problems are solved using anti-erosion geogrid and plants. Planting areas are mulched with natural pine bark mulch, which facilitates maintenance and creates favorable conditions for plants.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Since the main goal in creating the woodland garden was to preserve and restore the natural vegetation, the terrain and soil were analyzed before starting the project. Perform accurate measurements and soil analysis. Vegetation in this area was observed. Plant communities in the surrounding forests were observed. The plants of the forest floor were studied. Soil and growing conditions were taken into account when selecting new plants for the green spaces being created.

CHALLENGE:
It was important to keep the natural style while creating a modern garden. The garden must be comfortable for the owners, but at the same time friendly to the surrounding nature. It was necessary to visually hide the technologies (irrigation, erosion fixings) so that the garden would remain similar to a natural woods. It was difficult to plant plants on steep slopes, but it was necessary to strengthen the slopes and facilitate the maintenance of the garden. Plants are the ultimate solution to all issues.
