DESIGN NAME: Pillars of Creation
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Photograph
INSPIRATION: The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a space telescope which conducts infrared astronomy. As the largest optical telescope in space, its high resolution and sensitivity allow it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Near-Infrared Camera photograph of the Pillars of Creation, elephant trunks of interstellar gas and dust in the Eagle Nebula, in the Serpens constellation, some 6,500–7,000 light-years from Earth. Image taken by James Webb Space Telescope. Science : NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI. Image Processing : Joseph DePasquale (STScI), Anton M. Koekemoer (STScI), Alyssa Pagan (STScI).
