PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Dressing Table Set

INSPIRATION:
Swallow-tail ridge is the most commonly used architectural form in Southern Fujian traditional architecture, which achieves a delicate balance between functionality and decoration aesthetics. Integrating the local architectural culture and artistic characteristics of Southern Fujian into modern home design, the swallow-tail ridge is a cultural heritage and regeneration with strong symbolic meaning.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Inspired by the swallow-tail ridge, the exaggerated curved shape of the swallowtail with two ends up, is transformed into a key structural element of the furniture, and the entire ridge serves as the decorative handles of the drawers as well. Combining functional structure with decorative details, the design of the dressing table set enhance its sculptural aesthetic.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The dressing table is equipped with a intelligent LED mirror, which can freely adjust its brightness. Moreover, the sunken space on the countertop and the separated space inside the drawers are convenient for sorting and storing cosmetics. The vanity chair is designed to fit the body curve and matches the dressing table for excellent comfort.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project, started in October 2021 in Fuzhou, was completed in May 2022 in Fuzhou.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
This dressing table set is made of fraxinus mandshurica, using Chinese traditional architectural mortise and tenon joint craftsmanship.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This design belongs to conceptual study, aiming at refining and redesigning traditional Chinese culture, especially exploring methods to integrate the national native elements into modern furniture designs. The research methodology includes field research, user interviews, focus groups, and using tests. The research results will contribute to the inheritance and innovation of Chinese traditional culture.

CHALLENGE:
This research tries to find the point where tradition meets modernity, change the limitations of traditional elements used in designing, enhance the modern feel in designs, retain the inherent symbolic connotation meeting the needs of modern life, and endow traditional elements with modern significance.

PROFILE:
Taipei University of technology is located in Da'an District, Taipei City, Taiwan. It covers an area of about 9.3 hectares, the campus is an undergraduate college located in Taipei. It is abbreviated to Beike University or Taipei University of technology. In English, it is abbreviated to NTUT. It was formerly the industrial workshop affiliated to the Ministry of civil affairs, which was founded in 1912 by the governor's office of Taiwan during the Japanese occupation. Later, it was restructured into Taiwan's Provincial Taipei Industrial College in 1948. It has a long history. It is the first science and Technology University in Taiwan with industrial education as its goal and is famous for its engineering department.
