DESIGN NAME: I Am
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Installation
INSPIRATION: Inspiration of this installation comes from an ancient Indian text of Nirvana Shatakam. If one wants to know the truth, one should let go of ego and its own identity. One should realise that the body, the mind, the experiences, emotions, memories are not true. In reality, I am everything. I have neither attachment to the world,
nor to liberation. I am without any attributes, and without any form, always in equilibrium. I am indeed, that eternal knowing and the bliss, love and pure consciousness.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In today's context, where respect for art and design is growing on one hand, it is also seen that identity of the Artist or Design Professional is often questioned. 'I AM' is an expression as well as a mission conceptualised to hold all of this together. We were approached by the curators to participate in this journey that culminates in the expression of our identity onto a three dimensional canvas of a human head. The installation was a part of national expo where 20 architects participated.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The fibre head that is painted in acrylic colours is placed at the centre of pitch dark room. One should enter the room from a small door and experience the installation. The wavy mirror on the walls create abstract images of the head and create illusion depicting that one has to loose its identity to understand the reality of pure consciousness. There is a music played in the background that takes the person to meditative state and one can relate himself to the experience of realising who am I.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Project started in February 2022 and got completed in March 2022. It was displayed at National Expo on 25th March to 28Th March 2022.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The fibre head was painted in acrylic colours. Front face was painted to depict 5 elements of nature, the day and a night. Back of the head was painted to show the stages of human life as they were depicted on walls of caves in India. Also the emotions were depicted with faces of Kathakali, the dance form of India. The installation gets the centre place in a dark room with black walls and ceiling. Acrylic mirror that form s wavy surface was cladded on the walls to give effect of abstract reflections of a fibre painted head.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The fibre head dimensions are 700 mm x 700 mm x 1000 mm high. The room around installation was of 3600 mm x 3600 mm x 2400 mm high. One has to enter the room to get feel of the installation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: -
CHALLENGE: The fibre head was ready with painting. But the real challenge was to erect a structure at the venue that was of utmost importance to give experiential engagement with viewers. The structure needed to be erected in one night as the venue was not available prior. Fixing acrylic mirror was another tough jog in such a short time as we needed the exact effect of distorted abstract images. The room was thus pre fabricated and then assembled on the venue at night.
